❝ I design each home as though I were the one moving in — my own family, these exact rooms, this exact light. I only know how to build one way: completely.❞
— Tommy Hein
Tommy Hein Architects — where beauty meets purpose, and every space tells a story of connection, creativity, and belonging.
At Tommy Hein Architects, we are deeply rooted in the belief that architecture should seamlessly blend with nature, enriching the human experience. Guided by the values of truth and honesty, we do whatever it takes to deliver excellence in design, driven by an unrelenting passion for our craft.
Tommy Hein approaches architecture through a lens shaped by nature, balance, and years of listening to the land. Influenced by the principles of Taoism, he carries a quiet understanding that the true power of architecture lies not in the walls themselves, but in the space they hold — the open, livable “within” that gives a place its purpose. This sensibility guides his instinctive approach to energy, flow, and the way people move through a home.
As the leader of our firm, Tommy cultivates a collaborative environment rooted in connection. Ideas move fluidly between his team of ten associates, clients, engineers, and specialty consultants, allowing each project to unfold with clarity and intention.
Guided by craftsmanship and mindful stewardship, Tommy’s work transcends convention, creating architecture defined not only by form and material, but by the meaningful space — the breath — held inside.
At the core of our brand is a simple yet profound purpose: to craft harmony between humanity and nature through thoughtful design. For us, architecture transcends mere structures; it's about channeling the spirit of the land and connecting people to their surroundings through space. Each project is an opportunity to sculpt living art, a testament to our love and passion for creating and building.
Tommy Hein Architects is one of Telluride's most established and influential architectural practices, with a portfolio spanning decades of custom residences, historic renovations and landmark projects throughout the Telluride region and beyond. Hein's work is deeply rooted in the landscape, blending contemporary design with the region's architectural vernacular and responding thoughtfully to topography, light, materials and views.
With a reputation for highly individual, site-specific architecture, Hein has helped shape the visual language of contemporary Telluride while maintaining a strong respect for its historic character and natural setting. His influence extends beyond individual residences. He has been involved in significant local projects and has contributed to the evolution of sustainable building practices in the region.
Our approach is founded on profound connection and empathy. We listen attentively to our clients, establishing bonds rooted in mutual understanding. We embark on a journey of discovery, immersing ourselves in the uniqueness of each place, feeling its energy flow through us as we meditate on its essence. Drawing from timeless principles of Feng Shui and a lifetime of experience, we allow each structure to grow organically, shaping itself to the landscape and the people who will inhabit it.
Efficiency, innovation, and practicality are the pillars of our approach. We integrate the latest technologies and green building practices, ensuring that every design maximizes client value and sustainability.
Our objectives are clear: to engage with the most innovative minds and undertake cutting-edge, thrilling projects. We're at the beginning of our journey, eagerly embracing reinvention in all aspects.
